I am an H1B holder in Indianapolis, IN processing GC on EB3 -actually my EAD (PERM) is 'In Process'; my wife and 3 under age kids are H4s... a couple of months ago we had to update our address in our 2 DL & 5 IDs... of course I am the only holder of a SSN so no problems getting the renewal of my DL & ID. After getting a numident report from the SSA for my daughters and wife... there were no issues generating IDs for the kids... but according to BMV withouth a SSN my wife's DL won't be updated and it will be suspended in 30 days. How she got a license before (for 3 years) and now she can't...? Is there anyway to obtain a DL in Indiana being a legal H4? I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!!

What state you are in?
Here in CA, my wife was in a very similar situation and to complicate matters we had her last name changed to married one in passport since last entry in US. So we were trying to get the driver's license to reflect the name change. Initially the DMV refused saying they need I-94.
So we had the old/new passport, the old H4 approval notice in maiden name and new one in married name and I-94 at the bottom of the H4 approval notice. I then realized that we could use the I-94 at the bottom of H4, and it worked. We got the DL in new name within 1 week of applying.
Just hang on until you get the new approval notices and make sure you carry the original (they should make a photocopy and return original) H4 along with the I-94 on it when you visit DMV.
Good luck.

Sharing what I read on IV - some members reported their 140 status reverted to 'pending' along with a recent LUD when their ex-employer revoked already approved 140. In your case, status is not changed. Keep an eye on status. Hopefully, CIS will not do another wrongful denial, crossing my fingers. Best Luck bro!

That is not true, my lawyer who is very influential and he has some good contacts he told me that this year spill-over would be different form last year. I was stupid so didn�t believe him about July 2007, and paying it for now for not having EAD.
I know this is hard to believe especially if something comes from lawyer.

Here are some facts:
My I-140 was approved in April 2007 and I-485 was filed in August 2007. My H-1B expired on October 14, 2010 and my employer filed (using an attorney) for an extension last month. I have original H-1B filing receipt and copy for I-485 with me. I also had EAD which was scheduled to expire on October 15, 2010 and I filed myself for renewal of EAD and AP.
I lost my driving license with my wallet yesterday.
I checked NJ DMV website and in their 6 point ID verification they accept EAD and valid I-94 (which comes with H-1B approval, but I don't have either on me right now). Does anyone know what is the process in NJ. Do they accept filing receipts as valid document?
Without license I can't drive and go to work.
Any recent experience? I would really appreciate an answer.

I am very junior member on IV forums and have listened to all the experts and senior members on IV from time to time. Very solid ideas and very intelligent people! Although, I am not too familiar with the intricacies of what DOS said or what USCIS said; what I know is that there are many thousands of us who are here in a limbo for many many years. I think we have been "super- nice" to USCIS and Congress in the way we have approached them for our problems and rightly so - thats just us!
We have done our best educate them via lobbying efforts etc but wouldnt you agree that its time be a little more "assertive' now. Seriously, we dont know what the bigger picture is here. Year after Year, Month after month nothing moves with USCIS. Same old grim Visa Bulletin. I had written elsewhere that I dont even remember what my dates are anymore! Being in a western country or anywhere else in the world for 10-12 years is a long time. The culture, the enviroment and the system grows on you. Most of us left from India or elsewhere, when we were in our mid 20s . As young adults most of were explorers - soaking information, knowledge, new skills etc as we embarked on our journey to settle down in a foreign country. I think its fair to say that most of us have actually acquired our adult wisdom here. What I am getting to, is that when people talk about packing their bags and going back home - it may only be easier said than done!
I am not an expert at this but I believe we may have to come together again and we will need more visibility - maybe a six month long agressive assertive campaign - letters, flowers, rally and more all together so that we can catch congress' attention. It seems like legislation is the only way out here. Again, please pardon my inability to comprehend issues correctly, if I am wrong in saying so, but if we continue to rely on visa bulletins and USCIS; nothing is going to happen. We have done our best educate them via lobbying efforts etc but wouldnt you agree that its time be a little more "assertive' now. Seriously, we dont know what the bigger picture is here. Year after Year, Month after month nothing moves with USCIS. Same old grim Visa Bulletin. I had written elsewhere that I dont even remember what my dates are anymore! Being in a western country or anywhere else in the world for 10-12 years is a long time. The culture, the enviroment and the system grows on you. Most of us left from India or elsewhere, when we were in our mid 20s . As young adults most of were explorers - soaking information, knowledge, new skills etc as we embarked on our journey to settle down in a foreign country. I think its fair to say that most of us have actually acquired our adult wisdom here. What I am getting to, is that when people talk about packing their bags and going back home - it may only be easier said than done!

Between Fragoman, My Company and USCIS they sure are going to drive me nuts. I am waiting for green card for 10 years now with the same company. They are moving EB2 date and nothing gets done with EB3. On top of all these, 2 years from now, they will make all dates current which literally mean I will get my Green Card with a guy came here 10 months ago....
